CHIP STAM STEM CELL DRIVE: BE THE MATCH

Today's WORSHIP QUOTE is another wonderful "Holy Spirit" hymn that we sang last Sunday—Pentecost Sunday. We sing it to the tune "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" (ODE TO JOY). There is so much important biblical information about the Holy Spirit in this hymn. What an encouragement! The poet is the Canadian hymn writer Margaret Clarkson.

FOR YOUR GIFT OF GOD THE SPIRIT

For your gift of God the Spirit, pow’r to make our lives anew,
Pledge of life and hope of glory, Savior, we would worship you.
Crowning gift of resurrection sent from your ascended throne;
Fullness of the very Godhead come to make your life our own.

He, who in creation’s dawning brooded on the lifeless deep,
Still across our nature’s darkness moves to wake our souls from sleep;
Moves to stir, to draw, to quicken, thrusts us through with sense of sin;
Brings to birth and seals and fills us—saving Advocate within.

He, himself the living Author, wakes to life the sacred Word;
Reads with us its holy pages and reveals our risen Lord.
He it is who works within us teaching rebel hearts to pray;
He whose holy intercessions rise for us both night and day.

He, the mighty God, indwells us; his to strengthen help, empower;
His to overcome the Tempter—ours to call in danger’s hour.
In his strength we dare to battle all the raging hosts of sin,
And by him alone we conquer foes without and foes within.

Father, grant your Holy Spirit in our hearts may rule today,
Grieved not, quenched not, but unhindered, work in us his sovereign way.
Fill us with your holy fullness, God the Father, Spirit, Son;
In us, through us, then, forever shall your perfect will be done.

HEALTH UPDATE & PRAYER REQUEST
FOR CHIP STAM, CANCER PATIENT
www.carlstam.org/stemcelldrive
=====================================

May 26, 2010 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

Thanks so much for your faithful prayers for my treatment and healing. We continue to be very excited about the great success of the stem cell drive: www.carlstam.org/stemcelldrive. Praise God! Longer journal entries and pictures are at www.caringbridge.org/visit/carlstam (click on "journal" or "photos").

TESTS THIS WEEK
Yesterday, May 25, included a battery of tests that are designed to see if my body can withstand the rigor of the upcoming transplant—an EKG, an echocardiogram, several pulmonary function tests (lungs), and a chest X-ray. That was accompanied by the regular daily blood test and growth factor injection. Tomorrow, May 27, I will have an appointment with the oncology psychiatrist to check me out in that area. I am glad they are careful about all these things.

NEXT
Brother Billy will come to town for a day, June 3, for some blood tests and an educational session with the clinicians. My hospital stay is now scheduled to begin on June 15. (We are writing these dates on the calendar in pencil.) Billy will return to Louisville that week as my donor (a mismatched sibling). He will be given growth factor injections for several days; then they will get stem cells from him (APHERESIS). The actual infusion of his cells into my body will be during the second week of my hospital stay. The clinicians expect that I will be in the hospital for 4-6 weeks. As you remember, they will watch me closely for the various complications and dangers of Graft vs. Host Disease.

PRAYER
Please keep praying. We know that some rough times are ahead, and we are confident that the Lord is sufficient to give us grace and strength to meet the challenges. In the midst of great uncertainty, our family is experiencing a peace and hope that can only come from God (Romans 5:1-5). For this we are very thankful.

Don't forget to care for the cancer patients in your families, churches, neighborhoods, and places of employment. Pray that our stem cell drive will provide many, many cancer patients with life-saving options for treatment.

In His love and care,

Chip Stam
