The Worship Quote of the Week for (02/12/2008):

"Arise, My Soul, Arise"
How did you celebrated the three hundredth birthday of the great hymn writer Charles Wesley (1707-1788)? Today’s WORSHIP QUOTE is one of my favorite Wesley hymn texts, one that should be a wonderful encouragement to any follower of the Lord Jesus: "My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear; He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear." That's good stuff!

ARISE, MY SOUL, ARISE
Arise, my soul, arise; shake off thy guilty fears;
The bleeding sacrifice in my behalf appears:
Before the throne my surety stands,
Before the throne my surety stands,
My name is written on His hands.

He ever lives above, for me to intercede;
His all redeeming love, His precious blood, to plead:
His blood atoned for all our race,
His blood atoned for all our race,
And sprinkles now the throne of grace.

Five bleeding wounds He bears; received on Calvary;
They pour effectual prayers; they strongly plead for me:
“Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
“Forgive him, O forgive,” they cry,
“Nor let that ransomed sinner die!”

The Father hears Him pray, His dear anointed One;
He cannot turn away, the presence of His Son;
His Spirit answers to the blood,
His Spirit answers to the blood,
And tells me I am born of God.

My God is reconciled; His pardoning voice I hear;
He owns me for His child; I can no longer fear:
With confidence I now draw nigh,
With confidence I now draw nigh,
And “Father, Abba, Father,” cry.

--Charles Wesley (1707-1788), from HYMNS AND SACRED POEMS, 1742. www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/a/r/arisemys.htm. One of my favorite modern settings of this hymn is the one by Kevin Twit, as recorded by the musicians of Indelible Grace on their first CD. The free lead sheet and MP3 demo can be found at www.igracemusic.com/hymnbook/hymns/a13.html. Please take a close look at the information above concerning the free Indelible Grace performance in Louisville (February 18) and the free Charles Wesley Symposium (March 10-11).

Have a great week!
