The Worship Quote of the Week for (11/22/2005):

Gratitude and Adoration
Does heartfelt gratitude automatically put us in a posture of worship before God? Today’s WORSHIP QUOTE offers some helpful insight from C. S. Lewis. [There’s a word here that I had to look up in the dictionary. I’m sure that most of you will be just fine on your own.]

GRATITUDE AND ADORATION
Gratitude exclaims, very properly, “How good of God to give me this.” Adoration says, “What must be the quality of that Being whose far-off and momentary coruscations are like this!” One’s mind runs back up the sunbeam to the sun.

— C. S. Lewis, LETTERS TO MALCOLM: CHIEFLY ON PRAYER, Chapter 17. New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1964.

From Webster’s Dictionary, we have some help:

Coruscation, n. A glittering or flashing; a
quick vibration of light; intellectual
brilliancy.

[Lord, forgive us when we fail to bless the Giver because we are preoccupied with the gift. Help us to be appropriately grateful to you, and then to see beyond gratitude to adoration. Amen!]
