The Worship Quote of the Week for (07/26/2005):

We Worship a Jealous God
When you and I use the word “jealous,” we generally think of a negative character trait, an emotion to be avoided. Consider the familiar verse in 1 Corinthians 13: “Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude” (1 Cor. 13:4). Today’s WORSHIP QUOTE, however, presents several brief Scripture passages that deal with the fact that God IS jealous when it comes to worship. He will not share his glory with anyone or anything.

WE WORSHIP A JEALOUS GOD

You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very name is Jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.
Exodus 34:14

I am the LORD; that is my name!
I will not give my glory to anyone else,
nor share my praise with carved idols.
Isaiah 42:8

No one can serve two masters. For you will hate one and love the other; you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.
Matthew 6:24

We know that we are children of God and that the world around us is under the control of the evil one. And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life. Dear children, keep away from anything that might take God’s place in your hearts.
1 John 5:19-21
