The Worship Quote of the Week for (05/29/2001):

Deliver Us from Evil
Today's short WORSHIP QUOTE is from the quill of Blaise Pascal and seems to
deal with the important distinction between confession and repentance.

DELIVER US FROM EVIL
We implore the mercy of God, not that He may leave us at peace in our vices,
but that He may deliver us from them.

- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), from Pensees (Thoughts), Part IV: 553,
translated by W. F. Trotter. New York: P. F. Collier, c1910.

[This quote from Pascal is troubling to me because it makes me realize that
far too often I resist the full life-transforming, mind-renewing power of
Christ's love (Romans 12:1-2). Instead, I settle for a way to nicely manage
my sin and weakness and rebellion against God. Our Lord instructed his
disciples to pray "Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil"
(Matthew 6:13).]
