The Worship Quote of the Week for (11/02/1999):

Thy Will Be Done
Be honest; have you ever found yourself praying, "My kingdom come; my will be
done"? Today's WORSHIP QUOTE is an important insight on prayer from the pen
of Joy Davidman, C. S. Lewis' wife.

THY WILL BE DONE
We sometimes come to God, not because we love Him best, but because we love
our possessions best; we ask Christ to "save Western civilization," without
asking ourselves whether it is entirely a civilization that Christ could want
to save. We pray, too often, not to do God's will, but to enlist God's
assistance in maintaining our "continually increasing consumption." And yet,
though Christ promised that God would feed us, he never promised that God
would stuff us to bursting.

- Joy Davidman, SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN: AN INTERPRETATION OF THE TEN
COMMANDMENTS, Westminster John Knox Press, 1955 (Reissued in 1985)

[Do you sometimes fall into the trap of thinking that the Lord is merely a
chaplain for your dreams? Lord, teach us to pray! Amen!]

Have a great week,
