The Worship Quote of the Week for (10/12/1999):

Formula for Worship
Today's WORSHIP QUOTE is from Evelyn Underhill, an Anglican poet and mystic
writer who taught that the life of contemplative prayer was not just for
monks and nuns, but for any Christian willing to undertake it.

THE FORMULA FOR WORSHIP
As the genuine religious impulse becomes dominant, adoration more and more
takes charge. "I come to seek God because I need Him," may be an adequate
formula for prayer. "I come to adore His splendour, and fling myself and all
that I have at His feet," is the only possible formula for worship.

- Evelyn Underhill (1875-1941), mystic poet, writer, spiritual counselor, and
lecturer on the philosophy of religion at Manchester College, Oxford.

[Lord, meet us in our need; but help us to see beyond our need to your
matchless splendor. Help us to know you and to worship you in spirit and in
truth. Amen!]

Have a great week,
