The Worship Quote of the Week for (05/13/1997):

No Need to Wait (Pentecost)
Here we are at Pentecost. As we think about the coming of the Holy Spirit,
today's WORSHIP QUOTE OF THE WEEK comes from John Stott's commentary on the
Book of Acts.

NO NEED TO WAIT
"There is no need for us to wait, as the one hundred and twenty had to wait
[Acts 1], for the Spirit to come. For the Holy Spirit did come on the day of
Pentecost, and has never left his church. Our responsibility is to humble
ourselves before his sovereign authority, to determine not to quench him, but
to allow him his freedom. For then our churches will again manifest those
marks of the Spirit's presence which many young people are especially looking
for, namely biblical teaching, loving fellowship, living worship, and an
ongoing, outgoing evangelism."

- from John Stott's THE SPIRIT, THE CHURCH AND THE WORLD, InterVarsity Press,
1990, as collected in AUTHENTIC CHRISTIANITY/ FROM THE WRITINGS OF JOHN
STOTT, compiled by Timothy Dudley-Smith, InterVarsity Press, 1995.

[Yes! And may the entire church, not just the "young people," desire those
marks of the Holy Spirit's presence in our lives and in our local
fellowships, bringing praise and glory to Jesus.]

Happy Pentecost! Have a great week,

Chip Stam
