The Worship Quote of the Week for (11/05/1996):

Hymn of Praise for Election Day
Today's WORSHIP QUOTE OF THE WEEK comes from the Old Testament account of
Daniel revealing King Nebuchadnezzar's forgotten dream. Daniel, upon having
a vision that revealed the mystery to him, responded in a hymn of praise -
one of the great biblical psalms that is not found in the book of Psalms. If
you have time, read the whole story.

HYMN OF PRAISE FOR ELECTION DAY, DANIEL 2:19-23
During the night the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a vision. Then Daniel
praised the God of heaven and said,

Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
he sets up kings and deposes them;
He gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to the discerning,
He reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what lies in darkness,
and light dwells with him.
I thank and praise you, O God of my fathers:
You have given me wisdom and power,
you have made known to me what we asked of you,
you have made known to us the dream of the king.

--DANIEL 2:19-23

[Believe it or not, it almost sounds like an election-day prayer. I'd feel
pretty terrible if the two or three minutes spent reading this was the
distraction that kept you from voting, or from praying for your country.
Notice in Daniel 2:17-18 that Daniel made use of his three prayer partners to
ask for God's compassion.]

Have a great week,
